Registration opens for Safe + Sound Week

Each year, OSHA partners with several other safety agencies and organizations to promote awareness of workplace safety and health programs in a national initiative. This year’s Safe + Sound Week is scheduled for August 7-13 and will focus on mental health and well-being. Organizations can register for the event on OSHA's website.

Ergo group requests OSHA standard on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in health care

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is calling on OSHA to introduce a standard on safe patient handling and mobility. The organization’s research shows that over 50% of health care employees who interact with patients report MSD-related pain. To protect and retain employees, the organization is requesting mandated workplace programs that prioritize the use of lifting and transferring equipment.

Staying safe while transporting passengers

According to the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, over 350 taxi and limousine drivers suffered violent deaths between 2003 and 2013. To help protect drivers, NIOSH offers several tips in a Fast Facts article, including installing barriers, investing in technology, utilizing communications and posting signage.
